Association History

You have to know where you’ve been to know where you are going. Kappa holds a special place in its heart for Fraternity history, but every association of our organization has unique beginnings of its own. Each plays a part in shaping us today and continuing the Kappa tradition beyond college.

The Milwaukee Alumnae Association was founded on May 31, 1905, so it is one of the oldest associations in the country.  At some point in the 1950's or 1960's, the west side of Milwaukee broke away and began it's own alumnae association, which was called Milwaukee West Suburban.  In the 1970's, Milwaukee West Suburban became mostly a day group, with the original Milwaukee Alumnae Association functioning as a night group.  The two groups always celebrated Founders Day together downtown with a luncheon at the Woman's Club of Wisconsin.  In the 1990's, the two groups reunited to become one again and gatherings are spread throughout the city and are a combination of day and night.  Since most of our association minutes and written history have been misplaced or destroyed, unfortunately, our 100th anniversary in 2005 went uncelebrated.  We did celebrate our anniversary in 2008-2009, belatedly, but not less special for all that! We are an active group with a plethora of activities for gathering together throughout the year.
